Be Involved! Protect our right to marry!

With less than 50 days left to go things are starting to ramp up! We know that each of you are working hard in your committees to ensure our victory in November. This weekend is an especially important one and we need your time, energy and voice to counter the other side. According to press reports, on Monday September 22, one million Mormons will march out of their front doors to plant Yes on Prop 8 signs in their yards.

The Mormon Church has already donated more than $1 million to the attempt to take away equal marriage rights. They have paid for yard signs for church members, they have reportedly requested that each Mormon family donate $1000 to the Yes on 8 campaign, they have mailed letters, they have sent e-mails and they have pounded church members from the pulpit with a relentless message against marriage equality.

Whether or not they actually plant one million yard sings (after all, who will count?) the question of whether the Mormon Church, the Catholic Church -- or any church -- should be able to buy an election is a fundamental question. Especially an election whose sole aim is to eliminate someone's basic rights.

What can you do?
This weekend, Sept. 20-21, the No on 8 Campaign is asking you to take part in at least one of the following actions. These same activities are taking place statewide, so your efforts here will be matched by thousands of others who are fighting for fairness and equality from Sacramento to Los Angeles!

1) Join a Human Billboard Team!
We are organizing people to hit the streets to get the word out about fairness and equality. We'll be out on the streets in high visibility locations in North County, Metro San Diego and the South Bay to show our support and raise awareness about the campaign. We'll have signs you can wave available! Below are the details of who to contact to find out when and where to meet in the locations nearest you.

North County: Contact Ryan at ryan@noonprop8.com
Metro San Diego: Contact is Jacqueline at jacqueline@noonprop8.com
South Bay: Contact is Eric at eric@noonprop8.com

These folks can tell you where to pick up your sign, what time to meet and where the action will take place!

2) Get on the Phone
Volunteer to get on the phone and actually talk to voters instead of just walking out your door to plant a sign. No on Prop 8 will be holding phone banks on Saturday and Sunday at their Hillcrest headquarters, Carlsbad and Chula Vista. With so much at stake in the November election, we need you to help ensure that Californians who value fairness vote No on Prop 8. Whether you are a veteran of many political campaigns or this is your first, you are needed in this critically important struggle. They'll train you to talk to undecided voters and how to recruit even more volunteers – it's easy! The phone banks will be followed by a series of statewide visibility actions. For more information, contact Cara Dessert at cara@noonprop8.com.

3) Organize a House Party
House parties are critical because they engage supporters like you to help defeat Prop 8. It's an opportunity to spark a dialogue about freedom and fairness, and it gives you a chance to involve your friends and family members in this important campaign. To download the House Party Kit, visit www.noonprop8.com.

4) Make a Contribution!
The other side is outraising us 3-1. If you haven't already made a contribution, or if you can make another one, now is the time to do so! With time running out, the media campaign will start soon and it's up to us to be sure our message is heard loud and clear.

Your active involvement in this struggle is crucial. Those who want to write discrimination into our state constitution, who want to roll back the clock and undo the progress we've made, are rallying all of their troops. They are taking action and we must match them step for step

While we had good news in today's Field Poll that said more Californians oppose the elimination of marriage rights, we have to do everything we can to build on our momentum and win!

Thank you again for everything you do.
